A Civil Service talent programme will reserve two-thirds of its places for “diverse candidates”, a leaked document reveals.
The Cabinet Office scheme, designed to help civil servants progress into more senior roles, will give 20 of 30 places available at the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to staff who are ethnically diverse, disabled or from a lower socioeconomic background.
Beyond Boundaries offers civil servants support “to develop the knowledge, skills, and networks required to build a satisfying and effective career in the Civil Service”.
“This is proof again of discrimination in civil service recruitment. Jobs and opportunities should be awarded on merit, not handed out according to someone’s ethnicity, disability or socioeconomic background – especially when taxpayers are footing the bill,” Reform UK’s Zia Yusuf told me.
